WOOD SCREWS
The wood screw is a tapered thread forming screw having a gimlet point and a sharp crested, coarse pitch thread. Wood screws can be driven without the need for a pre-drilled hole, and is designed to bond wood to wood. Wood screws are usually threaded two-thirds up from the point, with the final one-third unthreaded. This threading is used to produce a mating thread when assembled into wood or other resilient materials.

The wood screw's taper increases the screw's binding power. Its smooth shank pulls the pieces of wood together.
